Since my last post a lot has happened. The school I work in has been inspected by OFSTED. We were awarded Outstanding.
I felt somewhat disconnected from the award, as I have only been there from last September, but I think that even I spent hours and hours planning and preparing lessons that were never seen, I took part in supporting my other colleagues and co-workers.
I have also been involved a subject inspection by the Local LEA. This was actually today, I was observed and found it quite nerve racking and frustrating.
I was nervous because I had an all singing all dancing lesson planned, and was going to be have to really tight on my timing. Which I was.
I was frustrated because the inspector left after 25 mins to go and observe another IT Teacher, and the students didn’t get a real chance to show what they had leant and done in the 1st too activities.
So what have I learnt from these experiences:
- On your marks - keep on top of all your marking. I need to make sure that course work is marked up to date, section by section. I think I have let students get too far ahead without getting enough feedback to create high quality work.
- Get Set - The planning and preparation needed for lessons is necessary for good learning.
- Go - Follow up my classroom expectations with strategies to support them. Such as using MIN, and clear objectives and outcomes.
